Bodrum Castle in Turkey is located in Mugla province. Built by the Knights of Saint John in 1402, the castle sits on the coastline of Bodrum. It is surprising to learn that the knights built it with stones from the ruins of the nearby Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.

As well as a defense port, other uses comprise military barracks and prisons in the 19th century. But its greatest moment of fame was when it became the museum of underwater shipwrecks, and more importantly, the biggest in the world attached to archeology under the sea. Its most famous exhibit is the Kas Uluburun shipwreck from the 14th century BC.

The castle is believed to have been built between the 14th and 15th centuries. It houses an inner castle, garrison quarters, a chapel, and a head tower.

At such a height, the medieval castle offers a breathtaking view of the Fırtına Valley, the eponymous river, and the area Kuzey Anadolu Mountains, or the Pontic Mountains.

Kızkalesi castle in Turkey is located in Silifke district of Mersin province. With its name meaning ”Maiden's Castle," the fortress was built by Alexios I Komnenos of the Byzantine Empire after the First Crusade in the 11th century.

The first settling in Kızkalesi dates back to the 4th century BC. Since Kızkalesi is seen as a powerful trade base, it has been dominated by many civilizations throughout history. Seleucus, Rome, Byzantium, Anatolian Seljuks, Armenian Kingdom of Klikya, Karamanogulları, and the Ottoman Empire ruled here respectively. With the aqueducts built during the Roman period, water was get from the Lemas Stream, making this an important settlement. In order to prevent the attacks of pirates, it was surrounded by walls over time.

Alanya Castle in Turkey is located in the province of Antalya. Alanya Castle is a magnificent Seljuk ruin that sits atop a 250 meters high peninsular in the Mediterranean Sea. Alanya Castle is surrounded by walls of 6 km lengths. It is based on 10 hectares of land and hosted Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, and Ottoman civilizations.
The port that shielded Sicilian bandits and pirates in the 3rd century BC, was turned into the main naval base of the Seljuk navy; defensive walls were restored. Then the Red Tower, perhaps the most striking of monuments that remain at the site, was constructed. From then until the 18th century Alanya, incorporated into the Ottoman empire in 1471, became an important port for trading with other Mediterranean countries, especially Syria, Egypt, and Cyprus.
Today Alanya is the best-preserved dockyard of the Mediterranean basin and it is one of the places frequented by tourists with its beautiful scenery.
